Trump Delivers Highest Number of Words In Nearly 100 Years

Trump delivered 2,887 words to the indoor seated crowd inside the US Capitol building. This is the highest number since Herbert Hoover in 1929. It was also significantly more words than Trump’s first term address in 2017.

President Carter Still Tops For Positive Sentiments

Since 1977, no President has delivered more positive remarks as a percentage of their total sentences as Jimmy Carter.  60% of Carter’s remarks had a positive sentiment.  President Obama delivered the most negative sentiments from other presidents in the past 50 years.  In fact, throughout the United States history, only Andrew Jackson has a higher percentage of positive sentiments in his 1829 address.

Trump Less Positive, More Neutral in Second Term Address

President Trump delivered more neutral sentences in his 2025 address, which resulted in a large decrease in positive sentiment percentage.  In 2017, 51% of his sentences were positive, while just 29% of his sentences had a positive sentiment in his 2025 address.

It has been many years since the word ‘tariff’ was spoken at a Presidential Inaugural Address—ninety-six, to be exact. Herbert Hoover last used the phrase back in 1929.  President Howard Taft tops the number of times referencing tariff with 11 references.

Republicans Mention Economy Twice As Much as Democrats

President Trump did not specifically use the word ‘economy’ in his most recent inaugural address.  However, it has made many appearances throughout the history of the US inaugural addresses.  The Republican Presidents have mentioned the economy twice as often as the Democrats with President Reagan referencing the term the most of any US President.

Trump Mentions Border More Than Any Past President

Trump leads all past presidents with 6 mentions of ‘border’ in his two inaugural addresses.  The Republican presidents have mentioned this twice as much as Democrats.
